Read Time:2 Minute, 45 Second

“In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.”
Acts 2:17

Whilst it is premature to say that we’re living in the last days, we can attest to the fact that the path of the mystic is full of dreams and visions.  Mystics have always claimed that God reveals spiritual truths to us within our dreams. Isn’t a vision just a dream that you happen to have in the daytime, a brief period when the conscious mind is out of the way for a moment or two allowing the divine spirit to flood our awareness with a sudden realisation, an event that we simply describe as ‘epiphany?’

Walking with God.

If we choose to direct our awareness towards God, then his divinity will reveal itself to us in the most unexpected of ways, such as random acts of kindness from complete strangers or odd coincidences that serve to remind us that we’re on the right path. When asleep we will experience the most spiritual of dreams, when awake we will be gifted with blinding flashes of insight that seemingly come from nowhere, arising within the gaps between thoughts. These priceless jewels of enlightenment all serve to reveal our place within God’s creation as well as shining a light upon our spiritual nature and its deep relationship with reality, thus bringing us ever closer to complete union with God.

Plato’s realm of forms…

Whilst dreaming our sense of reality will become heightened making the dream more real than the mundane experience of everyday life, not only will colours be more energised and vivid but every landscape, every building, every object will be the most perfect representation of itself that it can possibly be, increasing in perfection the closer we are to God.

Once we leave this plane of existence, heading in the direction of God, increasing degrees of perfection will be found everywhere. The souls that we may meet along the way become evermore loving, compassionate and patient, desiring only the best for us as we progress spiritually.

Only a divine agency could manifest such precision, revealing to us the best possible version of all things, people, places and objects. This is how we can be sure that we’re experiencing the divine and not simply imagining a pleasant fiction.

Let it be said however that should we engage upon the mystic path, our journey will be unique, so we shouldn’t feel tempted to start a new religion. What is revealed to us, is most likely meant for us alone, it’s our own personal teaching from the divine and is everything that we need to develop our own spirit. Our path up the mountain will be different from others but the view from the summit will be the same for all.

The death of the ego.

We Mystics are not better than other people, there is enough time in eternity for all souls to discover union with God. Spiritual growth is as inevitable as the rising and setting of the sun. It will happen to everyone sooner or later, every flower grows at its own rate and all are needed to make reality complete.
